Red Cup Endorsement #13

Gold Panda - "Thailand Chord Droner"

A short but sweet new track by Gold Panda was posted on his soundcloud page recently.  Not much info around this (except that it's an "mpc fuk about") which is actually refreshing.  "Thailand Chord Droner" is a glitch-looptronica track that is worth 2 minutes of your time. Listen below:

Korallreven ft. Julianna Barwick - "Sa Sa Samoa" (Elite Gymnastics Remix)

Don't expext to hear Julianna Barwick's ethereal 'Sa Sa Samoa' chorus on this Elite Gymnastics remix of the eponymous Korallreven track.  Instead vocal duties are taken over by Whitney Houston with a timely sample from her "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" classic.  The remix borrows from old school rave and breakbeat (remember Acen?) and maintains some piano chords and balearic pads from the original. Listen to or download below:

Warp Records Triple Post - New music from Squarepusher and Clark and the Battles Remixes

On today's triplet of new goodies from the classic electronic music label we will not be discussing the rumors regarding a new Boards of Canada double album.  Instead we will talk about Squarepusher's upcoming album details and live show, Clark's latest tune off his upcoming LP and the Battles' remix album.

Squarepusher has disappeared for while (no shocker there) since his latest project with Shoebaleader One.  We're extremely excited to hear that he's back with a new album entitled "Ufabulum" releasing in mid-May, which according the the man himself will be pure electronic (no bass guitar? doubt it), melodic and aggressive. We're also glad that the Daft Punkesque mask he dawned on his previous collaborative project is still around.  Listen to a tiny snippet of what's to come below.  For more details on live performances revolving around the new album go here.

Up next is the latest track to appear from Clark's upcoming LP "Iradelphic".  We've already posted another album track "Com Touch", and now you can listen "The Pining Pt 2" below as well.  This track is still heavy in the beat section, yet the song is even more melodic with vocal elements that are introduced in this way for the first time on a Clark track:
¨

Our last bit of new is the exciting announcement with regard to a remix album of Battles' Dross Glop LP based on the relevant 12" releases.  Contributors include Hyperdub labelhead Kode 9, Shabazz Palaces, Silent Servant, Hudson Mohawke and more.  The album will be releasing in mid April.  Our favorite of the few that have seen the light of day so far is the remix of "Sweetie & Shag" by The Field.  Listen to it below:

Sigha - "Abstractions I-IV"

Scuba's Hotflush records return with Sigha's sixth release on the label. "Abstractions I-IV" is a cross between ambient techno, with darker influences and strong basslines. With a lot of support by Dettmann, Moeller and appearances on Scuba's DJ-Kicks mixed compilation with "Where I Come To Forget" this EP will not leave you disappointed. Preview below:

Bombay Bicycle Club – "How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep" (Scuba Remix)

In more Scuba news, the Hotflush labelhead has delivered quite the remix for Bombay Bicycle Club's "How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep".  In tune with the music on his Personality LP, the sound is unashamedly big and optimistic yet some of his techno influences creep in a little more on this track.  Listen to the track below:

Stream: Scuba - Personality LP

Hotflush labelhead and dubstep/techno multi-genrelist Scuba is generous in his streamaways.  Possibly encouraged by how good this record is and confident that people will rush to buy it once they've heard it (we sure did)  Scuba has offered up a full- stream of his third LP "Personality".  A relatively optimistic and feel-good affair this LP is a necessary positive note in troubled times. Listen to it below in its entirety:

Lone - "Crystal Caverns 1991"

Lone's "Crystal Caverns 1991" constitutes another new direction in the ever-morphing sound of the R&S artist.  While recent releases and his DJ sets have been hinting at a newfound love for an old school rave anthem aesthetic and his previous LP "Emerald City Tracks" had such element peaking under the thick gauze of technicolor BoCeqsue atmospheres, this track off his upcoming LP "Galaxy Garden" (on the 5th of July on R&S) doesn't hold back on this theme in the least.  Essentially, this is an old school rave track made with modern production tools and a contemporary feel for tempo and composition.  Listen to the explosive "Crystal Caverns 1991" below:

Kodiak - "Spreo Superbus" (Actress Remix)

Actress tries something different on this remix of Kodiak's "Spreo Bus" which you can listen to below along with the visuals created by the Numbers label's graphics team.  This  is slower, churny and more melodic techno with doses of Actress' characteristic buzz:

Listen: Madeaux - “Karma In Reverse”

We may not know much about Madeaux, as  he, she, or they have decided to keep their identity a secret for the time being letting the track “Karma In Reverse” be the talking point. The playful tune has a similar vibe to AraabMuzik in its beats but with a little more whimsy coming in and out of it making for a unique work.

Listen: SBTRKT – Hold On (SISI BAKBAK RMX) AKA Thom Yorke

Radiohead's Thom Yorke has remixed SBTRKT’s “Hold On” under the mysterious moniker Sisi Bakbak. The Sisi BakBak remix comes as a B-side on the single version of SBTRKT's original "Hold On", available digitally on February 21 and on May 8 as a limited-edition 12" through XL. Enjoy the tune and accompanying visuals below…

Preview: Goldie - "Freedom"

D&B pionneer and Metalheadz labelhead (as well as a whole bunch of other stuff) Goldie will be releasing a new track entitled "Freedom" marking the 100th release of the label.  The track features Natalie Duncan whose voice you might remember from "Inner City Life" and other Goldie tracks off his epic album "Timeless" that defined the genre and whose title aptly describes the LPs music.
"Freedom" will be releasing April 2nd on limited edition on-sided vinyl with a hand etched message from Goldie himself on the flipside.  It's great to see him back in form.  Preview the track below:

Skream - "One Take..."

Dubstep pioneer and current poster boy of the genre just posted a track that will never be finished due to a software crash during the production phase.  It could be why it sounds so stripped back, yet it seems that this accident worked to the track's benefit.  The classic Skream shuffle is there, yet it's a more minimal affair in comparison to his previous work. Listen below:

Preview: Burial - "Kindred" EP

As you've probably already heard, Burial's brand new EP Kindred is out in digital form only and available to preview and order over at the Hyperdub wesbite.  We'd already given you a sneak peak at EP track "Ashtray Wasp" and along with the title track and the other B-side "Loner" the EP shows Burial resorting to his signature sound palette and sample base, yet he's definately trying something new here in terms of melody and structure.  As with any new Burial EP, all the songs here are meticulously crafted and deserve your attention.  Can't wait for the vinyl release.

Bent - previously unreleased tracks

The UK duo Bent always held a special place in our heart.  While their albums sold well in the mainstream market during the chill-explosion of the later 90s and early 00s (and even got name checked by the likes of Sir Michael Caine, Nicole Kidman and Gerard Butler), their music was grossly overlooked by electronic music purists.  Today it is clear that many sample-based downtempo, balearic and even chillwave producers owe a great deal to the sound pioneered by Bent.  While may of their contemporaries struggled to release picture perfect, squeaky-clean digital chill anthems, Bent used analogue equipment, dusty vinyl samples and a lo-fi aesthetic to create a truly unique sound that was both anchored in their time as well as forward thinking.  They could be described as a more poppy Boards of Canada,  a vintage Air France or a more minimal Avalanches.  A couple of months ago the band unveiled some unreleased songs from 1998 on their soundcloud page.  We've selected our two favorite below.  Here's hoping there's something new in the books too.

Watch: Ifan Dafydd - "Treehouse" Music Video

Ifan Dafydd, once rumored to be a James Blake alias, is back with an official video for his track "Treehouse".  The video is essentially a panda version of Daft Punk's "Da Funk" in which the hero was a man with a dog mask.  The track is a superb mix of dreamy atmospherics, melodic vocals and crisp drums.  Listen and watch below:

Video: Sun Glitters – “High”

Sun Glitters released the video for the their tune “High” from their ep of the same name. The dreamy video fits the hazy pitch-shifted samples like a glove. Take it all in below…

Emika feat. Jimmy Edgar - "Hit Me"

Emika's self-titled debut was one of our favorite records from last year.  On this collaboration with the ever morphing Jimmy Edgar, it's nice to see her working on something a bit lighter in mood.  Her vocals remain ominous in message and delivery, yet the music is bright and rich in comparison to her minimal aesthetic on her LP.  Loving the breakdowns and the vocoder too.  Listen below or watch the video:

Watch: UNKLE - "Another Night Out" Music Video

UNKLE just released a video for one of their stand out tracks from their last album "Where Did the Night Fall".  The video"Another Night Out" which features the legendary Mark Lanegan on vocals, captures the emotions of a boxer past his prime (perhaps something James Lavelle can relate to in terms of clubbing?).  Watch the video below directed by Toby Dye:

Preview: Monolake - "Ghosts" LP

This double LP by Monolake released on Imbalance soon to hit the shelves, is a long awaited  LP that is bound to turn heads. This recording is richly enhanced with organic found-sound elements including metal plates, bells, and even Henke's own voice.  Charged with drum & bass and dubstep influences yet drenched in a techno aesthetic, this release further builds on Monolake's signature sound:

Download: Fixers - "Iron Deer Dream" (Keep Shelly in Athens remix)

Listen to or download the brand new remix for Fixers' "Iron Deer Dream" by our favorite Greek duo Keep Shelly in Athens.  The end result sounds like a mix between balearic-beat on speed and the Chemical Brothers.  Another different direction for the duo, yet we're glad to hear the staple synth solos are still there.

Fluxion - "Traces" EP

Released on the Echocord label, the traces EP is inspired by the artist's travels. Tri Angle Bi Post No. 4 - Evian Christ signs to label and offers free mixtape & new music from oOoOO

Our Tri Angle Bi Post feature is back in full force with two massive bits of news related to our favorite label.  Check out our previous Tri Angle Bi Posts here: one, two and three.

First up is the  news related to Evian Christ.  With lots of buzz surrounding his music and little or no information surrounding his name, it was with a sigh of relief that the internet welcomed the outting of the man behind the Evian Christ monicker.  It turns out that 22 year old Londoner Joshua Leary has been making these beats and our favorite record label right now, Tri Angle has also taken notice by making him their latest addition to their roster.  Until an official release on the imprint you can download the excellent "Kings and Them Mixtape" here which compiles all the tracks this young producer has been uploading on his youtube account in high quality.

Next up is a track off the forthcoming oOoOO EP Our Love is Hurting Us which you can stream below or download here (via Stereogum).  The track is entitled "No Way Back" and features Butterclock.  This isn't the first time the two team up as they have previously covered a Rick Ross track together, which you can listen to here.

Download: Brainfeeder Sampler (feat. Martyn, Lapalux and other)

The LA based label Brainfeeder headed by Flying Lotus has proven to be a force to be reckoned with in the field of beat-centered electronic music.  With a roster featuring the likes of Martyn, Lorn, Gaslamp Killer, Thundercat and Lapalux the imprint has remained on the cutting edge of the scene delivering fresh and new ideas on every release.  Having just received the label-of-the-year award through Gilles Peterson's show, Brainfeeder released a compilation available for free download here (in exchange for your e-mail address) with songs from the label's roster for your listening pleasure.  The comp also features a previously unreleased Lapalux track from his upcoming album.

Guido - FACT Mix 314

We recently talked about Guido's return in the form of his double A-side EP on State of Joy and were very excited when we heard that the folks over at FACT Mag invited the Bristol based dubstep producer for a second FACT mix. Head over to this link to listen to or download FACT Mix 314 which features some unreleased cuts from the likes of Guido himself, Joker and others.
