Download: Mike Paradinas - 3am Surfing Mix

Planet μ labelhead and electronic music legend Mike Paradinas (aka μ-ziq) has been going on a footwork binge (check out a recent mix of his with some of the best tracks we've heard from that genre here) for quite some time now, yet he nor his label were never a one stop shop.  Listen to or download this diverse mix dipping into a more melodic and atmospheric side of electronic music with plenty of retro-futurism, arpeggios and big synth hooks a la Kuedo...ok most of the beats are footwork influenced but that's a good thing. There's a really cool Depeche Mode "Enjoy the Silence" remix in there too.

East Cost producer/DJ Com Truise dropped a new exclusive mixtape this week entitled “Check Yo Ponytail.” The producer bathes the listener in a wash of retro-futuristic selections, infused with kraut rhythms and hints of new wave.  Com’s own brand of slow motion digital funk is interlaced throughout the 20 track selection alongside such artists as Boards of Canada, New order, Das Kabinette and more.

Motto Berlin has just turned 3 years old and to celebrate they have asked friends, collaborators and people they admire to put together mixtapes with the idea that they should be played within the context of Bookstores. The first offering comes in the form of a playlist selected by a 2011 favorite of ours, Kuedo. The UK born / Berlin based artist recently released his critically acclaimed debut album Severant on the British label, Planet Mu and if you haven’t heard it already get crackin! Kuedo has curated this playlist entitled ‘Sinking in the Datatank’ specifically with the act of reading in mind, "delving into a hypnotic modern history of avant-garde electronics and rousing soundscapes".

Planet μ Double Post - New music from Ital and Mike Paradinas' Boiler Room set

Planet μ is one of our favorite record labels here at Red Cup with some strong releases in 2011 such as new material from Keep Shelly in Athens, Kuedo and Ital Tek. That being said, it's high time we gave the imprint the ol' double post treatment.

First up is one of the label's latest signing Ital (not to be confused with aforementioned label mate Ital Tek).  We've already posted an earlier non-Planet μ release of this artist's work which we were particularly fond of.  With growing buzz around his name, the label finally revealed a sneak peak into what we can expect from his debut LP Hive Mind releasing in February and boy are we excited.  Listen to the jittery ADD album opener cheekily entitled "Doesn't Matter (if you love him)" below:

Next up is label head and electronic music legend Mike Paradinas' (aka μ-ziq) set for the Boileroom.  The mix is filled to the brim with top notch footwork tracks, a genre he's responsible for bringing to the masses and to electronic music's sub-conscious (just listen to the footwork influence on tracks by Kuedo, Machinedrum and Evian Christ).  If your still not sold or you need some catching up this is a good place to start:

Mr Scruff - New Years Eve 6 hour Mix

Yes you read that right...Mr Scruff, known for his looooong DJ sets, was kind enough to share the 6 hour mix he played for those mancunians lucky enough to welcome the New Year in his company.  We're only 2 hours in ourselves and it's been one hell of a listen thus far.  Listen below:

If you've kept up with this blog you'll already know that we're big fans of Dame Music labelhead Bloody Mary. Her productions aside, we're also paricularly fond of her mixes (check out her excellent mix for Wilde Agency here). This mix recorded live for Beatport (both video and audio) is no exception.  Watch and listen below:

Raime - FACT mix

Joe Andrews and Tom Halstead, aka Raime, whose lengthily titled EP we posted recently, just delivered an interesting mix for FACT revolving around 93' - 94' era jungle (d&b wasn't even a term back then).  On what could only be described as an influence-based mix from the otherwise techno duo on the Blackest Ever Black roster, Raime demonstrate how Detroit and more recently Berlin, were not the only influence on the modern industrial techno sound.  Early UK-based jungle productions played a huge role on this side of the Atlantic in codifying the urban life into electronic soundscapes.  Despite certain ragga influences that crept in the scene in the 90s, it was the mid-90s that put the concrete back in Jungle.  If you're still puzzled by Raime playing out old school Dillinja and Doc Scott records, listen beyong the breaks and focus on the sub bass, the drone pads and general atmospherics and it will make a lot more sense.  Listen to FACT mix 292 by Raime or download it for free directly at this link.

Bloody Mary - New Mix for the Wilde Agency

We're known to be big fans of the Dame Music label in general.  However, nothing excites us more than when we hear news of a mix put together by label head Bloody Mary herself.  Her DJing  track record so far is near perfect and we've already posted her previous mix for the Wilde Agency a while back, so it is with much delight that we present to you her equally delicious second mix of the Wilde Agency, their 28th podcast, which you can listen to or download below:

Balam Acab mixtape for...Vogue Magazine

Looks like the fashion world has a stylish taste in music too.  We were quite puzzled when we heard Balam Acab had made an exclusive mixtape for the French Vogue Magazine, but this just proves this young producer's work is so otherworldly it can hold up in any context.  Plus we're happy to hear from the Tri Angle crew no matter where their heads pop up.  Click the download link below to grab the mixtape for free:

Kuedo - FACT mix 288

Listen to or download this brilliantly varied genre-bending mix by Kuedo (formerly of Vex'd) for FACT available below for the next three weeks.  There's plenty of slow spun hip-hop, raw dubstep and even some Vangelis thrown in the mix (confirming the inlfluence the Greek synth wizard has had on Kuedo's debut solo full length for Planet Mu). Plaid - Mix for Altered Zones

Listen to a new mix by Warp records pionneers Plaid for Altered Zones.  Though the duo's own productions lean on the traditional experimental and melodic side of electronic music, as their latest album also attests to, this mix exposes the band's love for dubstep, in its old school, 'post' and bass variations.  Listen to it or download it below:

Water Borders - Dummy Mix 90

Admittedly, Water Borders has been the Tri Angle Records outfit we've been following the least.  However, after hearing this impeccable and incredibly diverse mix they made for Dummy this San Fransisco duo is also permanently on our radar.  Red Cup highly recommends you check out this educational, as much as it is entertaining mix, which combines chopped and screwed psych-rock, charleston, techno, bass music, ghost-hop, deep-ish house and dancehall (it even closes off with that rare Ital track "Culture Clubs" we discovered a while back and posted about here).  Listen to or download the mix for free directly from the Dummy site here.
