Download: oFF Love - CloseToU (oOoOO Remix)

Here's something you can offer your better half for Valentine's Day if she/he's into good music.  Tri Angle's o0o00 whose EP "Our Loving is Hurting Us" is releasing in two months, just offered up a remix of oFF Love's "CloseToU" for streaming and free download below.  Needless to say this has been the most romantic, as well as the most challenging to type, post we've done thus far.  Enjoy and Happy Valentine's day.

Tri Angle Bi Post No. 4 - Evian Christ signs to label and offers free mixtape & new music from oOoOO

Our Tri Angle Bi Post feature is back in full force with two massive bits of news related to our favorite label.  Check out our previous Tri Angle Bi Posts here: one, two and three.

First up is the  news related to Evian Christ.  With lots of buzz surrounding his music and little or no information surrounding his name, it was with a sigh of relief that the internet welcomed the outting of the man behind the Evian Christ monicker.  It turns out that 22 year old Londoner Joshua Leary has been making these beats and our favorite record label right now, Tri Angle has also taken notice by making him their latest addition to their roster.  Until an official release on the imprint you can download the excellent "Kings and Them Mixtape" here which compiles all the tracks this young producer has been uploading on his youtube account in high quality.

Next up is a track off the forthcoming oOoOO EP Our Love is Hurting Us which you can stream below or download here (via Stereogum).  The track is entitled "No Way Back" and features Butterclock.  This isn't the first time the two team up as they have previously covered a Rick Ross track together, which you can listen to here.

Vessel (new TriAngle Signing) - Scarletta

This just in from the label's facebook page, Tri Angle's latest signing Vessel has  revealed a track entitled "Scarletta" which you can listen to below in its entirety.  Keeping true to the flawless release track record of last year, our favorite record label of 2011 is starting off the new year with a bang.  "Scarletta" is similar to some of the other output on the label in terms of melody and atmosphere yet the drumwork here is on a more experimental tip. A welcome development in an already established sound. We're very very excited to hear more from Tri Angle this year, including the recently announced debut EP by labelhead Robin Carolan.

Tri Angle Bi Post No. 3 - New remixes of two Holy Other tracks

The Bleep exclusive tee
As you may or may not know, we have a little tradition going here at Red Cup of posting two TriAngle releases together. We like to call this (almost) feature Tri Angle Bi Post (check out the first and second ones too). It seems that while a TriAngle has three sides the label's good news usually come in two.  This time the good news came in the form of a Bleep exclusive digital compilation (check out the exclusive tee shirt too) of the online shop's favorite tracks from the label's roster plus exclusive remixes of two Holy Other tracks.

First up is the label's latest signing The Haxan Cloak and his remix of Holy Other's "Feel Something" off the "With U" EP.  The remix is multifaceted and changes direction a number of times starting off in ominous territory and then back to eerie minimalism.  Listen to it below:
Holy Other - Feel Something (The Haxan Cloak Remix) by TriAngleRecords

Next up is Andy Stott's remix of Holy Other's "Know Where".  Here the sound of the original is further degraded with a resulting cheap sampler/dusty organic cavern feel.  The rhythm is driven and hypnotic, the sort of primal techno Andy Stott is know for. Listen to it below:

Listen: Ayshay – “FACT mix 307”

Ayshay is the recording alias of Fatima Al Qadiri. Based in New York, but born in Senegal and raised in Kuwait. Her debut EP Warn-U was released on Tri Angle records recently and was Inspired by Sunni and Shiite Muslim worship songs, Warn-U is built 100% from Al Qadiri’s own voice, re-pitched and manipulated to mimic everything from century-old ghosts to Autotune chart pop.
FACT mix 307 is subtitled Ayshay’s ‘Surrender’ mix, and is dedicated to the Fade to Mind crew (Kingdom, Mike Q, etc), Dave Quam, Azizaman and DJ Rashad and Spinn’s Ghettoteknitianz clique and a pretty unique mix.

Washed Out - "Amor Fati" (Clams Casino Remix)

Clams Casino on his iPad - notice something on the right there? ;)
Big year for Tri Angle signee and Red Cup favorite Clams Casino whose work thus far has kept our interest with each and every release. While we've been fixated with his imperfect yet flawless sound, our friends over at our Onomatopoeia have long been expressing their support for chillwave darling Washed Out.  The two come together on this mostly beatless and extremely atmospheric remix of Washed Out's "Amor Fati" by Clams Casino.  Is it just us but does the lead synth sound an awful lot like an old school μ-ziq sound? That's got to be a good thing. Listen to or download below:

Damu - "Dont Cry in my Bed"

We were excited about Damu's work since his remix of Water Borders' "What Wi want".  The Manchester based producer seems to be churning out some very optimistic beats, which is also the case for "Dont Cry in my Bed" despite the title.  The track samples the line "One thing about music, when it hits you feel no pain" famously said by Bob Marley but also repeated by Dead Prez and Drake (we think this is a pitch-altered version from Drake's verse).  Listen to "Don't Cry in my Bed", which is also the closing track from Damu's LP "Unity" out now on Keysound records:

Balam Acab mixtape for...Vogue Magazine

Looks like the fashion world has a stylish taste in music too.  We were quite puzzled when we heard Balam Acab had made an exclusive mixtape for the French Vogue Magazine, but this just proves this young producer's work is so otherworldly it can hold up in any context.  Plus we're happy to hear from the Tri Angle crew no matter where their heads pop up.  Click the download link below to grab the mixtape for free:

Stream: Water Borders - "Harbored Mantras" LP

Listen to the entire debut album of Tri Angle duo Water Borders entitled "Harbored Mantras".  We got into these guys after their superb mix for Dummy Mag, which we reposted recently, but we also loved the Damu remix of album track "What Wiwant".  We'd rather you come up with you own impressions of the duo's unique LP and in the spirit of the album, which has succesfully dodged any and all categorization, we will also deliberately avoid pigeon holing it into any one genre.  Enjoy:

Tri Angle Bi Post No. 2 - New songs from Holy Other and Water Borders

Good things come in Tri Angles.  In our second Tri Angle Bi Post, the label that changed everything offers up two new tracks, both remixes, that are definitely worth our attention from Holy Other and Water Borders.

First up is Holy Other who, with a short yet incredible back-catalogue and an equally impressive array of eclectic remixes that rarely leave much of the original intact is back with another remix (have a listen to his recently posted remix of  Walls’ “Sunporch”, compare it to the original and you’ll see that this man is as faithful to the tracks he remixes as Aphex Twin famously was i.e. not at all).  This time, our favorite Tri Angle artist offers up an impressive rework for Black Dunes’ “This Will Destroy You”.  Don’t know about that but this will definitely leave you asking for more:

Next up is Water Borders, who we discovered late yet we’re glad we finally got on board thanks to that quaint and perfectly odd mix for Dummy magazine that we reposted not too long ago.  Have a listen to the excellent remix of their track by Machester based Damu.  The resulting sound is a carousel whirlwind of bleeps and electronics featuring a snare sound that is so delicious it would be worth a listen even if it wasn’t  heroically chopping though all that atmosphere. Listen to it or download it here:

Stream: Walls - Coracle LP

Go ahead and listen to 'Coracle', the latest and greatest album by Walls, in its entirety.  If you've been reading this blog you might have noticed we've been raving about stand out track "Sunporch" as well as its Holy Other remix for a while now.  Listen to the entire album below or oder it here:

Water Borders - Dummy Mix 90

Admittedly, Water Borders has been the Tri Angle Records outfit we've been following the least.  However, after hearing this impeccable and incredibly diverse mix they made for Dummy this San Fransisco duo is also permanently on our radar.  Red Cup highly recommends you check out this educational, as much as it is entertaining mix, which combines chopped and screwed psych-rock, charleston, techno, bass music, ghost-hop, deep-ish house and dancehall (it even closes off with that rare Ital track "Culture Clubs" we discovered a while back and posted about here).  Listen to or download the mix for free directly from the Dummy site here.

Video: Balam Acab - "Apart"

Video: Balam Acab - "Welcome"

Here is the new video from Balam Acab, the project of 20-year-old Pennsylvanian Alec Koone for the track “Welcome” off  of his new LP Wander/Wonder released this week on Tri Angle Records(Clams Casino, Holy Other). If you aren’t familiar with his sound there is a classical feel with samples sounding like they are pulled from recordings of hymns. Accentuating the "chamber dub" qualities are samples of orchestral sections and nylon string guitar strategically and surgically placed in pockets of negative space allowing each element a moment to shine on its own only to come together as one magnificent unit by the end.

Holy Other - With U EP

Holy Other is back with the EP "With U" which you can listen to in its entirety here and even download some of the tracks for free.  His sound is usually described as witch-house but could more appropriately be described as syrupy ghost-hop (term affectionately coined by Red Cup).  Holy Other uses pitched-down vocals to an unsettling effect and like many of his peers borrows heavily from the sounds of chopped and screwed hip-hop.  However, where Holy Other stands out is in the relatively high production quality and the sheer catchiness of the tunes.  Don't be suprised of you find yourself mimmicking in song the barely audible words to the track "Your Touch" in a ridiculous slow motion voice.
