Emika feat. Jimmy Edgar - "Hit Me"
Emika's self-titled debut was one of our favorite records from last year. On this collaboration with the ever morphing Jimmy Edgar, it's nice to see her working on something a bit lighter in mood. Her vocals remain ominous in message and delivery, yet the music is bright and rich in comparison to her minimal aesthetic on her LP. Loving the breakdowns and the vocoder too. Bonobo - Black Sands Remixed
Bonobo's Black Sands was one of our favorite long players of 2010. Throughout his multiple releases, the constantly morphing Ninja Tune artist has managed to maintain his signature organic beatmaking technique while keeping his ear to the ground and constantly sounding fresh. The variety of artists remixing the Black Sands LP is a testament to his wide ranging appeal and influence. Head over to the official site for Black Sands Remixed to enter your e-mail and download the footwork remix by Machinedrum (one half of Sepalcure) of single "Eyesdown" or stream the track below. The impressive roster of Red Cup favorites offering remix work to this LP include Floating Points, Lapalux, Falty DL and Mark Pritchard. Black Sands Remixed is out February 13th on Ninja Tune.

Update: Falty DL - "Atlantis" EP (+ free title-track download)
In short, "Atlantis" the Falty DL EP releasing on Ninja Tune on November 14, sounds as colorful as its artwork.Combining elements of techno, bass and dubstep, New Yorker Drew Lustman has been dishing out similar bangers through the seminal Ninja Tune and Planet μ imprints. Preview the EP below or pre-order it from the Ninja Tune store. We particularly liked the shuffly closing number "Sale Ends" as well as the driving title track - which you can now download for free over at Ninja Tune by entering your e-mail address here

Download: Kuedo - "Shutter Light Girl" (FaltyDL Play Remix)

At the same time, Falty DL's EP "Atlantis", which released yesterday, consists of 4 brilliant tracks that are all very different from each other but each serve as worthy ambassadors for the genre they dabble in, be it old skool hip-hop instrumentals à la Ninja Tune, dubstep or techno.
We can now hear what those two dynamic forces combined would sound like on Falty DL's remix of Kuedo's "Severant" track "Shutter Light Girl". The result, as you might expect, is as exciting on paper as it is on your speakers....listen to it or download it below for free:

Download: Boards of Canada mix by DJ Food
If you're anything likes us than your probably really really miss Boards of Canada. The hordes of immitators, as well as an entire generation inspired by their music (see nearly all the lo-fi electronic scene, witch-house, ghost-hop etc) just doesn't seem to cut it. While the appearance of new BoC material is long overdue, rumors are growing that an album is on the way, based on the appearance of a grey empty icon amidst the duo's discography on their official website (this apparently also happened sometime before their last release the "Trans Canada Highway" EP).
Given this painfull drought, Ninja Tune artist DJ Food's (Strictly Kev) mix of tracks from their Geodaddi album might have been missed by some but shouldn't be overlooked. According to Kev "Ten 3" CDs were made in hexagonal foldout covers with printed and sticker insides. BoC were given 4, Warp were given 4, Kev has 2." The mix serves as a reminder (hopefully to the band themselves too!) of the relevance, timelessness and, yes, genius, of the duo's music. Listen to or download Sometime In The Future by DJ Food below. Here's hoping that we'll hear some new BoC material 'sometime in the future' too.

Mr Scruff - "Feel It!/Bounce" 12"
Absolutely loving this self-professed "low slung dusty bump house" release by Mr Scruff, which is not too far removed from his other recent 12" Wobble Control, the video for which we posted recently. "Feel it!" is a curious chirpy little track with vocal snippets that range from 90 house diva material to pitched-up chops that might have fitted well on a Metalheadz track of that decade, while "Bounce" does what it says very well. Enjoy both below or order the 12" over at the Ninja Tune store here:

Mr Scruff - "Wobble Control"
If you don't like Mr Scruff...well you're just plain mean. The tea loving, multi-talented Ninja Tune artist, must be the nicest guy in electronic music, but that doesn't stop him from delivering some of the meanest, wobbliest if you will, basslines around. I remember listening to an old guest DJ set of Mr Scruff on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide radio show, where he spoke for about 30 minutes on how to brew the best cup of tea over some of the funkiest beats I had heard that year.
His new 12" which you can order directly from his own online store, features the ultra-funky new track "Wobble Control" plus a remix of the opening track from his previous album, "Music Takes Me Up" by Nickodemus & Zeb. Watch the official video for "Wobble Contol" below, which of course features his very own characteristic animation:
