Kuedo - "Work, Live & Sleep In Collapsing Space"

Our friends over at Onomatopoeia recently posted this retro-futuristic video for Kuedo's "Ascension Phase", a highlight track off his 2011 long player "Severant" which also happened to be one of our favorite albums from that year.  Now Planet μ, announced that a new non-album single will be released in June entitled "Work, Live & Sleep In Collapsing Space" and featuring remixes by the recent Hyperdub recruit Laurel Halo and Claude Speeed.  The track, which was recorded in the same sessions as "Severant", is in the same vein as the music off that album yet with a bit more of a bite.  We're talking open-filter arpeggios, Vaggelis-esque lead synths and, of course, those rapid-fire hi-hats we love so much.  Head over to the Planet μ site to listen to the track and remixes here.

Download: Mike Paradinas - 3am Surfing Mix

Planet μ labelhead and electronic music legend Mike Paradinas (aka μ-ziq) has been going on a footwork binge (check out a recent mix of his with some of the best tracks we've heard from that genre here) for quite some time now, yet he nor his label were never a one stop shop.  Listen to or download this diverse mix dipping into a more melodic and atmospheric side of electronic music with plenty of retro-futurism, arpeggios and big synth hooks a la Kuedo...ok most of the beats are footwork influenced but that's a good thing. There's a really cool Depeche Mode "Enjoy the Silence" remix in there too.

Listen: Motto Disco 01 - Kuedo "Sinking in the Datatank’"

Motto Berlin has just turned 3 years old and to celebrate they have asked friends, collaborators and people they admire to put together mixtapes with the idea that they should be played within the context of Bookstores. The first offering comes in the form of a playlist selected by a 2011 favorite of ours, Kuedo. The UK born / Berlin based artist recently released his critically acclaimed debut album Severant on the British label, Planet Mu and if you haven’t heard it already get crackin! Kuedo has curated this playlist entitled ‘Sinking in the Datatank’ specifically with the act of reading in mind, "delving into a hypnotic modern history of avant-garde electronics and rousing soundscapes".

Planet μ Double Post - New music from Ital and Mike Paradinas' Boiler Room set

Planet μ is one of our favorite record labels here at Red Cup with some strong releases in 2011 such as new material from Keep Shelly in Athens, Kuedo and Ital Tek. That being said, it's high time we gave the imprint the ol' double post treatment.

First up is one of the label's latest signing Ital (not to be confused with aforementioned label mate Ital Tek).  We've already posted an earlier non-Planet μ release of this artist's work which we were particularly fond of.  With growing buzz around his name, the label finally revealed a sneak peak into what we can expect from his debut LP Hive Mind releasing in February and boy are we excited.  Listen to the jittery ADD album opener cheekily entitled "Doesn't Matter (if you love him)" below:

Next up is label head and electronic music legend Mike Paradinas' (aka μ-ziq) set for the Boileroom.  The mix is filled to the brim with top notch footwork tracks, a genre he's responsible for bringing to the masses and to electronic music's sub-conscious (just listen to the footwork influence on tracks by Kuedo, Machinedrum and Evian Christ).  If your still not sold or you need some catching up this is a good place to start:

Update: Keep Shelly in Athens - "Campus Martius" EP

Unfortunately we weren't able to see Keep Shelly in Athens at their live show last weekend in their hometown at Bios.  Nonetheless, we were extremely proud and excited when we heard that the duo would be the first Greek act to be signed on the the seminal Planet μ label.  We grew up to the music of labelhead Mike Paradinas aka μ-ziq, who has since played a crucial part in shaping modern electronic music both with his own early productions but also through his trend setting and cutting-edge roster choices on his record label.

While the blogosphere has already been buzzing about Keep Shelly in Athens since their beginnings, this signing serves as a reaffirmation of the massive potential held by the pair.  Their first EP on Planet μ is entitled "Campus Martius" and will be releasing on December 5th. You can pre-order and preview the tracks here.  The EP demonstrates a darker approach to their sound that we had already noticed on previous single "Our Own Dream". You can also listen to or download their remix of Solar Bears' "Cub" below, which will also feature on the EP and, as stated by the label, was the track that first caught their attention or check out the title track right after:

In short, "Atlantis" the Falty DL EP releasing on Ninja Tune on November 14, sounds as colorful as its artwork.Combining elements of techno, bass and dubstep, New Yorker Drew Lustman has been dishing out similar bangers through the seminal Ninja Tune and Planet μ imprints Preview the EP below or pre-order it from the Ninja Tune store. We particularly liked the shuffly closing number "Sale Ends" as well as the driving title track - which you can now download for free over at Ninja Tune by entering your e-mail address here

Download: Kuedo - "Shutter Light Girl" (FaltyDL Play Remix)

Kuedo
There is no doubt that Kuedo's debut solo LP "Severant" has pricked many ears.  It's one of the most cohesive electronic albums of the year that is at once conceptual and abstract - the original soundtrack to a futuristic film noir that was never shot.

Falty DL
At the same time, Falty DL's EP "Atlantis", which released yesterday, consists of 4 brilliant tracks that are all very different from each other but each serve as worthy ambassadors for the genre they dabble in, be it old skool hip-hop instrumentals à la Ninja Tune, dubstep or techno.

We can now hear what those two dynamic forces combined would sound like on Falty DL's remix of Kuedo's "Severant" track "Shutter Light Girl".  The result, as you might expect, is as exciting on paper as it is on your speakers....listen to it or download it below for free:

Download: Crazy P - "Wecanonlybewhoweare" (Keep Shelly In Athens Remix)

After last week's big news that Keep Shelly in Athens are to release their "Campus Martius" EP on Planet μ, the Greek duo are once again on our radar with this characteristically ethereal remix of Crazy P's "Wecanonlybewhoweare".  The track sees the act breaking into new territory once more with some choppy-vocal treatment they have yet to resort to.  Listen to or download the track below for free:

Stream: Kuedo - "Severant" LP

One of the most intriguing artists in the wider dubstep scene and widely considered as a founding father of the genre, along with former Vex'd band mate Roly Porter (check out our double post with solo work from both), Kuedo is soon releasing his much anticipated debut solo LP "Severant" on Planet μ. You can now stream the entire record, ahead of its release on October 17th, exclusively at the Guardian website here.  After delivering one of our favorite online mixes this year, Kuedo's "Severant" inspired by Vangelis and futwork (the genre which seems to be sweeping the label's roster, including label head Mikes Paradinas aka μ-ziq, off their...feet) is a post-galactapocalyptic masterpiece and looks like it will earn a place in our top albums of 2011.  We highly suggest you head over to the Guardian site for the full deal and an interesting interview or listen to the album sampler below:

Kuedo - FACT mix 288

Listen to or download this brilliantly varied genre-bending mix by Kuedo (formerly of Vex'd) for FACT available below for the next three weeks.  There's plenty of slow spun hip-hop, raw dubstep and even some Vangelis thrown in the mix (confirming the inlfluence the Greek synth wizard has had on Kuedo's debut solo full length for Planet Mu). Go for it:

Former Vex'd Members' Solo Projects

The duo known as Vex'd widely acknowledged as having delivered the first dubstep album back in 2005 on Planet Mu are now recordings as solo artists.  First up is Kuedo (Jamie Teasdale aka Jamie Vex'd) whose upcoming album "Severant" releasing on October 17th is heavily influenced by retro-futuristic concepts.  Check out his tumblr site to see his visual influences, but we think it's pretty evident on track "Ant City" which is a Blade Runner themed chopped and screwed tempoed anthem:

Next up is the other former half of Vex'd, Roly Porter, whose  debut solo album "Aftertime" on Subtext Recordings is a triumph in atmospheric analogue drone music.  Porter has a very unique sound here so we suggest you listen to the preview below to get a taste of the record:
