Stream: Rustie - Essential Mix (BBC Radio 1)

Further promoting the case for over-the-top maximalist music, Glaswegian Warp artist Rustie (or the fried Mars bar of electronic music as we like to call him) just offered up his Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 performed on April 7th of this year.  The mix could turn any party into a sweaty body-colliding mayhem featuring new and old bangers from artists including the like-minded Hudson Mohawke, Clams Casino, Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lone not to mention some of his own tracks (for a full playlist and upcoming tour dates head here).  This may not be for those still scavenging minimalist soundscapes for subtle and brief moments of genius professed by tiny echoed filter sweeps or those who revel in the hypnotic syncopation of a 10 minute track comprised of a single loop.  For the rest of us, Rustie, with the power of his comb over, is formidably ushering in a new sound whose volume and size cannot be ignored by definition.  Stream the entire mix below:

Tri Angle Bi Post No. 5 - Howse joins the roster and new Clams Casino Instrumentals

Today's Tri Angle Bi Post (check out our previous one here) is particularly exciting due to the fact that it features a new signing and more instrumentals from our second favorite artist on the label (can you guess our favorite?)

First off we're happy to announce another mysterious and talented producer(s) to join the imprint.  The artist who goes by the name of Howse will be releasing the debut EP Lay Hollow on the 28th of this month across all formats.  You can listen to or download an EP track below entitled "VBS" which sounds like lo-fi porn-house meets footwork.  Exciting stuff.

Next up is Clams Casino whose Instrumentals LP is now supplemented by two new instrumental tracks that didn't make the cut in time. "Swervin" (initially the beat for XV's mixtape Zero Heroes), the better of the two, can be listened to or downloaded through Onomatopoeia while the second "Moons and Stars" (the remix beat to Big K.R.I.T.S. track with the same name) can be downloaded through Pitchfork.com here. Evian Christ - "Fuck it none of y'all don't rap"

Came across this ill beat by anonymous producer (Evian Christ) via Dummy.  The mysterious Evian uploaded a whole bunch of tracks on a youtube channel and all of them are actually superb.  We would agree with Dummy in that the vibe here is Clams Casino gone footwork, though it sounds like Evian is more into crystal clear textures rather than distorted soundscapes.  Listen to highlight "Fuck it non of y'all don't rap below":

Big year for Tri Angle signee and Red Cup favorite Clams Casino whose work thus far has kept our interest with each and every release. While we've been fixated with his imperfect yet flawless sound, our friends over at our Onomatopoeia have long been expressing their support for chillwave darling Washed Out.  The two come together on this mostly beatless and extremely atmospheric remix of Washed Out's "Amor Fati" by Clams Casino.  Is it just us but does the lead synth sound an awful lot like an old school μ-ziq sound?
