Watch: Clark - Black Stone (short film)

We've been bringing you many tracks off Clark's Iradelphic which has finally released and is available here.  To celebrate the album's release Warp released this short film directed by The Vikings and set to somber album track "Black Stone".  The track is a piano piece (Clark was classically trained) and the video features some of those bugs Clark seems to be so fond of. Watch it below:

Watch: CHLLNGR - "Change"

CHLLNGR released one of our favorite LPs of 2011 and while his dub influences were apparent, they never reared their head up as much as in this track which will be releasing on his next EP on Time No Place.  The animated video for the spacey dub extravaganza "Change" is a as brilliant as the track.  Watch the video or  stream/download the tune below:

Video: Meet Jamie XX

The Creators Project put together a 6 plus minute video feature on Jamie Smith, better known as Jamie xx, one third of The xx and a prolific remixer and producer whose work spans a diverse range of musical styles.

He’s had some high profile collaborations that have brought The xx’s signature industrial sounds, hollow bass whisperings and clapping beats to a wide range of performers, from the Grammy-nominated pop of Adele, to the indie gloom of Radiohead, the orchestral sounds of Florence + the Machine and the introspective musings of Gil Scott-Heron‘s last studio album I’m New Here—remixing each into electronically-haunted melodies layered atop laid back, clubby percussions.

With a new album from The xx on the way, Smith reflects on his teenage years raving at Mass in Brixton, why it’s best not to over analyse why you like a certain track and the myriad musical influences that informed his own unique audio style, ranging from jazz, soul, hip-hop, drum n’ bass, disco and electronic music. He also talks about the importance of live performance and his ambition to develop an electronic instrument that leaves room for the human.

While The xx’s new material was informed by their partying, when it comes to making the beats, Smith likes to keep it simple using Logic, Space Echo, preamps, and the occasional CASIO to give the band their emotive, electronically-soaked sound. Watch the video profile above to hear more about the humble music mastermind’s creative process.

Watch: Gold Panda - "Marriage" Live

We are renound Gold Panda fans here at Red Cup and have been so since his very first releases.  On the latest issue (3-11) of the excellent Slices Magazine we caught a brief glimpse into the mindset of the British artist, known for his modesty and for being soft-spoken, in which he states that performing live was never part of the plan but developed out of necessity.  We're perplexed by this because Gold Panda's live performances number among the most intriguing one-man electronic music sets with many elements reconstructed and well-adapted for the live environment.  Watch him perform "Marriage" live in London this past October below and you'll see what we mean.  Don't forget to check out his DJ-Kicks mix as well, which also demostrates his unique DJing skills as well:

Video: Modeselektor – “Shipwreck” Featuring Thom Yorke

Here is the new video for Thom Yorke and Modeselektor's previosuly discussed collaborative track "Shipwreck". The clip was directed by Tony T. Datis and works well for Halloween today as it features a little boy with a visibly disturbed nature, he encounters zombies and a vicious dog while curiously collecting batteries. Watch it below…

Watch: The Prodigy - short video for Greek fans

This short video, brought to our attention by an old friend, was made by The Prodigy for their Greek fans. It features an interview and footage from the band's appearance at the Rockwave Festival in Malacasa, which Red Cup covered extensively here.  After a quick recount of all the violence that has occured during all their gigs in Greece, the band suggests that their apperance in Athens inspired them to get back in the studio.  Toward the end, Liam talks about their next record describing it as 'deeper' and 'heavier' (really ?!) claiming that it will have the anger present on their second LP combined with the urgency evident on their latest album.  Watch the video here:

Video: Balam Acab - "Welcome"

Here is the new video from Balam Acab, the project of 20-year-old Pennsylvanian Alec Koone for the track “Welcome” off  of his new LP Wander/Wonder released this week on Tri Angle Records(Clams Casino, Holy Other). If you aren’t familiar with his sound there is a classical feel with samples sounding like they are pulled from recordings of hymns. Accentuating the "chamber dub" qualities are samples of orchestral sections and nylon string guitar strategically and surgically placed in pockets of negative space allowing each element a moment to shine on its own only to come together as one magnificent unit by the end.

Video: Actress - "Maze"

Here is a new music video for Actress's "Maze", which is taken from the already approaching seminal 2010 Honest Jon’s album ‘Splazsh’. The video was drirected by Luke Alexander and uses much of the hexagonal shapes of the record’s cover art. Watch it, and get lost in the maze.

Ifan Dafydd - "Miranda" & "No Good"

Once rumored to be James Blake’s secret alter ego Ifan Dafydd  has been making a name all on his own with some exciting music that's equal parts jittery and glitchy. With support from the likes of Jamie xx, who lists him as one of his top 10 producers it’s safe to say whoever he is the tunes speak for themselves. Enjoy the stream of choice cut “Miranda” and the video for the Amy Winehouse sampling “No Good” Below…
