Listen: Prefuse 73 – “Aninha”

Piano Overlord, aka Prefuse 73,  dropped a tune by the name of  "Aninha" recently. The single officially appears on Aninha Mission, a collection of tracks recorded back in 2004 that never saw the light of day, that is now available via Chocolate Industries. They say good things come with age, what do you think?

Warp Records Triple Post - New music from Squarepusher and Clark and the Battles Remixes

On today's triplet of new goodies from the classic electronic music label we will not be discussing the rumors regarding a new Boards of Canada double album.  Instead we will talk about Squarepusher's upcoming album details and live show, Clark's latest tune off his upcoming LP and the Battles' remix album.

Squarepusher has disappeared for while (no shocker there) since his latest project with Shoebaleader One.  We're extremely excited to hear that he's back with a new album entitled "Ufabulum" releasing in mid-May, which according the the man himself will be pure electronic (no bass guitar? doubt it), melodic and aggressive. We're also glad that the Daft Punkesque mask he dawned on his previous collaborative project is still around.  Listen to a tiny snippet of what's to come below.  For more details on live performances revolving around the new album go here.

Up next is the latest track to appear from Clark's upcoming LP "Iradelphic".  We've already posted another album track "Com Touch", and now you can listen "The Pining Pt 2" below as well.  This track is still heavy in the beat section, yet the song is even more melodic with vocal elements that are introduced in this way for the first time on a Clark track:
¨

Our last bit of new is the exciting announcement with regard to a remix album of Battles' Dross Glop LP based on the relevant 12" releases.  Contributors include Hyperdub labelhead Kode 9, Shabazz Palaces, Silent Servant, Hudson Mohawke and more.  The album will be releasing in mid April.  Our favorite of the few that have seen the light of day so far is the remix of "Sweetie & Shag" by The Field.  Listen to it below:

Clark - "Com Touch"

Warp veteran and expert soundsmith Clark is finally bringing out some new material in the form of his LP Iradelphic releasing on Warp Records on April 2nd.  Ahead of this long awaited release, the label shared album track "Com Touch" for our listening pleasure which you can also download for free by entering your e-mail here.  Although Clark has stated that he's going for a completely new sound, we can't help but notice that while "Com Touch" is certainly different to his last few releases on Warp, it sounds like a throwback to his earlier melodic work which is a welcome change in our book.  According to Clark, the album was recorded in various locations and features some collaborations with labelmate Bibio.  Exciting stuff.  Listen to the track below:

Loops Haunt - "Ark" EP

Loops Haunt's EP "Ark" was released on November 28th on Bristol based label Black Acre Records.  The title track is essentially a massive slab of experimental dubstep with a sound palette ranging from Rustie's glassy synth leads and buzzy basslines to early Warp atmospherics.  Listen to "Ark" below:

A Made Up Sound - "The Plunge" EP

Upon listening to A Made Up Sound's title track off his the "The Plunge" EP one immediately encounters a completely fresh sound based on techno and broken beat but with a heavy dose of experimentation. His synth stabs almost sound like he's taken a drill to his synthesizer while his panning somehow sounds like it was done with surround sound. All this aside it is also remarkably suited for the dance floor. Listen to "The Plunge (beat mix)" below:

Dasha Rush - "Relativismi" EP

Dasha Rush's "Relativismi" EP is coming out right around the holidays on Sonic Groove Records. Her inspiring signature take on techno never ceased to impress us here at Red Cup on almost every release thus far. B-side "Relative Perspective" is particularly interesting with a  wave of deep beats and evident experimental electronic influences . Listen below:

Om Unit - "Transport" EP

We're really excited about Om Unit's forthcoming EP "Transport" which will be releasing on Civil Music on the 28th of November.  Opener "Swimming Dragon" packs a punch (or an oriental kick for that matter) edging into near d&b territory but held slightly back by its dubstep swing.  "Eternal Way" and "Vibrations" are achored in dubstep rhythms but with a more expretimental 'chip' sound palette. Closing track "Cold World" is similar one of our favorite Om Unit tracks "Fibonacci 10".  You can preview the entire EP below or pre-order it directly from the Civil Music site:

Label to Watch: King Deluxe

We can't hide our excitement for the output of the promising upcoming electronic music label King Deluxe based in Salmo, British Columbia.  Thus far the imprint has revealed an ecclectic roster of artists that lean on the dubstep side of electronic music but with an undoubtedly fresh approach to the genre.  The stylistic and graphic-design choices of the label are also unique and their logo, that lion with head-gear (get it?) on the right, has to be one of the coolest we've seen in a while.  For a taste of what's to come listen to or download  a track we've been obsessing over since we first heard, the ridiculously chilled "Seven" by Max Ulis, which will be featured on the label's "The 2999 Project" conceptual compilation or watch the video for the excellent "Mass" by Vaetxh which starts off with huge swaths of atmosphere only to build into an experimental dubstep track with all of the genre's bells and whistles:

Donato Dozzy - "K" LP

Donato Dozzy's "K" debut album released on Further Records, intended as a limited edition vinyl exclusive record, disappeared in less than 48 hours since its release - upon listening  to any of the featured tracks, it's easy to understand why. This outstanding early-morning-techno record is riddled with influences ranging from early Warp releases to the melodic side of Berlin's Morr Music output.  Listen to "Track 1" (the tracks are all untitled) below or check out  "K" related artwork in a printed full color silkscreen on a heavy stock chipboard jacket here:

dBridge - "City of Lonely Runaways"

It used to be that the more experimental side of electronic music was influenced by and borrowed from the underground genre-anchored scenes (see the influence of Drum&Bass on Aphex Twin, Squarepusher etc. or the influence of chopped & screwed hip-hop on a lot of the Tri Angle artists).  With the output from dBridge's label Exit Records it seems as if the tables have turned.  We've already commented on how we came across the excellent "Decayed", the B-side to dBridge's "Rendez Vous" white label, and how it reminded us more of Boards of Canada than Bad Company (the latter being dBridge's former heavy hitting D&B project).  dBridge's  newest record is the excellent "City of Lonely Runaways", which much like Kuedo's latest work, draws more from Vangelis than Virus Records.  Listen to "City of Lonely Runways" below:

Stay+ - "Fever"

This track by Mancunias Stay+ (formerly known as Christian Aids), builds in incredible amount of momentum and spooky anticipation before it explodes into a glorious and shamelessly melodic arpeggio right in the middle of the track.  "Fever" will be released soon on Ramp Recordings but until then you can listen to it below:

Video: Actress - "Maze"

Here is a new music video for Actress's "Maze", which is taken from the already approaching seminal 2010 Honest Jon’s album ‘Splazsh’. The video was drirected by Luke Alexander and uses much of the hexagonal shapes of the record’s cover art. Watch it, and get lost in the maze.
